Description

Name: Autumn Fire
Barn Name: [[Mostly]] Firehorse [[sometimes]] Fire
Breed: #FulgerEquine.
Sex: Stallion.
Base Coat: Bay.
Eye Color: Blue.
Rarity: Common.
Mutations: None.
Height: 16.5 hands
Age: 5 years
Markings: White face, 4 white socks, 3 lightning strikes

Temperment: Fiery, but easier to handle than Mac; cannot stand to be stuck in stall all day long. Must be lunged, turned out, ridden, turned out, lunged again, then put in stall. Must always have something to do. Pretty high maintenance, but he's worth it.

Personality: Must always be occupied. Has "large stall needs". Competitive, wants to win. A lot. He can't stand rubbing the rails. You tell him 'jump', he snorts and asks 'how high?'. Once worked and in the mood to work, he'll show you a whole new horse. Determined to get the job done. If you keep raising the jump, he'll jump it until he's too physically tired to jump anymore. CANNOT be tied or restrained for long periods of time. He gets agitated and tends to bite and kick. And buck. And rear. Basically, bad things happen when you keep him restricted.

Discipline: Show jumping, JUMPERS DIVISION.

Other: Coat looks like fire when the sun hits it, hence the name "Firehorse". [[It doesn't look like fire in this image, but...I"m working on it.]]

Aspen finished tacking the gorgeous stallion up and led him out to the mounting block. He chewed on the bit and halted at the block. Aspen tightened her girth, ran down the stirrups and mounted. Jay walked out of the barn to meet her. He didn't look happy.

"Aspen," he started, in a voice that a parent would use while scolding a child, "Why did you buy this horse before I even looked at him go?!"

Aspen swallowed.
"Jay, I know it's not the usual way we do things. But...someone else was going to buy him. It was either buy him on the spot, or lose him to another barn. Just wait until you see him go. Just keep an open mind while watching him," Aspen replied, keeping calm.

Jay took a deep breath in, then let it out.
"All right," he grumbled. "Take him down below."

Aspen supressed a whoop of victory and guided the antsy stallion to the arena on the south side of the property. She let him look at everything he wanted to. His ears were pricked the whole walk down. Upon seeing the arena, he bunched his muscles up and began to prance slowly. He arched his neck and collected his slow trot even more. Aspen laughed and gave him a pat on the neck. His ears flickered back to her.
"Good boy. Good boy," she told him, whispering to the excited horse.

Jay opened the gate for her. Aspen and Autumn Fire stood still at the gate. The wind whistled through the trees. Birds called to one another. Horses whinnied and replied. Somewhere in the distance, a dog barked. Fire stood still and took it all in. Aspen could feel him quivering with excitement. She squeezed his sides gently. He accelerated into a collected trot. Aspen shook her head slightly.
No, Handsome. Extend that for me, hun.
She gave him the signal and he extended his trot, looking smooth and effortless. Aspen asked him to frame up, and he did. She only asked once, and he kept his figure the whole way around the arena. Aspen changed directions and warmed him up.

She paused and let him walk for a moment. She snuck a glance at Jay. His face was expressionless, unreadable. Aspen sighed. Well, it was worth a try...

She sat deeply in her saddle and asked for the canter. Fire's transition was beautiful. He was well trained. He listened to Aspen's cues and responded immediately. She collected and extended the canter, then went across the diagonal and did a lead change. The calm stallion did everything she asked.

Aspen looked around the arena, scoping out where she wanted to take him. She designed her course mentally, within a few seconds. She approached a blue and green oxer with yellow flowers, around 3'. Fire didn't bat an eye at the jump, and leapt over it with ease. She took a sharp right turn and rolled back to a black and yellow vertical, around 3'6. Fire gathered himself up and sprung over it. Aspen grinned. Fire was doing perfectly. They danced through a triple combination, soared over a 4' vertical, and approached the last jump. It was a 5 foot oxer. It had wagon half-suns on the standards, and the flowers whipped around in the wind.

Fire lengthened his stride, building up for the final jump. Aspen let him out a notch. The jump got closer and closer. Then, they were airborne. Time seemed to stop. Horse and rider suspended in the air; no longer two separate beings, but one tremendous machine. Fire's hooves never touched the top rail. Didn't touch, didn't bump it, nothing.

They hit the ground. Fire landed and cantered smoothly away from the towering jump. He gave a small buck of pleasure and snorted. Aspen let him walk and loosened the rein. She pat him on the neck and walked slowly over to Jay.

"So..." she began, fingering her helmet buckle. "What...what did you think of him?"

Jay, leaning on the rail, straightened up and sighed.
"I think that if he doesn't have sufficient training he could be dangerous. I think only the most talented and experienced riders should ride him. I think he needs to be handled carefully." Aspen's smile faded.
"However, I KNOW that he has the most potential of any horse here. I KNOW he is a jumping machine. And I KNOW that this horse will win every competition we put him into."
Aspen smiled in relief.

"Good job. Good pick. See you tomorrow," Jay said. He gave a curt nod and walked away.

Aspen grinned. "Good job, Handsome. You did it."
